Our last day of the tour, beautiful warm sunny weather, and an Art Farm to explore. Painter and sculptor Edward Cornell has created an amazing space inside an old hay barn as well as outside, with monumental sculpture set along rolling hills  and a picturesque wetlands area. A contorted aluminum silo top slowly turns in the breeze . Local author and photographer Kathryn Cramer visited Cornell’s Crooked Brook Studios during this weekend’s studio tour. Pictures of the Art Farm as well as a visit to Kevin Raines’s studio and Phillips Art Conservation Studio are also included. Be sure to check them out here!

Kevin Raines

Kevin Raines may be a professor of art at a university in Baltimore, but his heart and soul are in the Adirondacks, and his paintings reflect this. A recent article by Athena  Roth, blogger for LakePlacid.com, covers the core of who Kevin is as an artist in the Adirondacks. Please visit her article here.

With just six days left before the start of the 1st ever Studio Tour in the Boquet Valley, each of these days will be used to introduce you to the participating artists. Starting with Alison Weld.  Alison’s studio is located in Westport, NY, nestled along a “country” road. Enter her studio and get swept away to a place far removed from the surrounding farm fields (minus the geological influence of her work), a studio tour must see! Also, an incredible person to meet. Her work is best described and presented in the video below.  Alison’s work was also on display at Atea Ring’s Gallery this summer, great article to read here.

Tour Map is Ready!

The 1st Annual Boquet Valley Studio Tour Map & Brochure is ready for you to download, print and plan your drive, or bike, or hike tour of the artists we have in the beautiful Foothills of the Adirondacks!

An additional note: Irene has affected the participation of artists in this tour. Locations like the Old Mill Studio, the former workplace of artist Wayman Adams was hit particularly hard and as a result unable to open their doors to you during Columbus Day Weekend. Our thoughts are with all of our neighbors that were affected and are still facing clean up from the flooding and winds that occurred in August!

An interactive Google map is up and participating artists are being added to the site, we are weeks away from a fantastic fall tour of our artists’ studios in the Boquet Valley! So Exciting!!!

We are starting a new adventure along the Champlain Valley and at the foothills of the Adirondacks, a weekend to become familiar with our artists, their work and creative process, materials and techniques,  as well as a driving tour of some pretty beautiful land.  This will be the first year of the tour with many more to come. Please check back often for updates on this event scheduled to take place October 7th, 8th, and 9th 2011!
